AWN is a membership organization of Afghan women. Each month the General Assembly of members meets to discuss current issues and organization matters. The General Assembly is composed of three types of members: Regular, Associate and Ordinary. When someone joins the AWN, they start as an associate member for six months, then become an ordinary member for one year. After that time, they are considered regular members who can elect the executive committee and vote on AWN business that comes before the General Assembly. Currently there are 70 NGO members and over 3,000 individual members in Afghanistan and in Pakistan..

AWN Executive Committee, the principal decision-making body. The Exective Committee is elected by General Assembly meeting and serve for one year.

AWN annual election of the Executive Committee Members was held on August 1,2004 at AWN office based in Kabul. Among 11 candidates 5 candidates were elected by AWN NGO and individual members.
