Background
Training Human Rights Association for Afghan Women (THRA ) was founded in October 1997 in Kabul , Afghanistan and it is registered in economy Ministry of Afghanistan in 2003.Registration number of organization 85 Economic Ministry of Afghanistan . It is a nongovernmental, nonpolitical and nonprofit able organization working in different areas The main target of the organization is to provide awareness programs for women so that they get aware of their rights. They are entitled in accordance with Islamic laws and international laws. THRA aims to help Afghan women recognize their rights and the ways to benefit from them. We encourage women in our programs to avail their rights and participate in all social affairs. We want to ensure women possess their full rights in the society and they function actively equal to men. THRA started its work from Kabul and Nangharhar and now THRA has projects not only in Kabul but in provinces such as Nangharhar, Logar, Parwan, Mazar, Wardak and Ghazni. THRA has worked as national observer in the 2004 presidential election in Noristan, Nangarhar, Kunar and Laghman provinces. In addition THRA worked with 1500 observers in the 2005 parliamentary elections. THRA has been supported financially by British Embassy, Rights and Democracy, GTZ, ded, AGEF, NED, AWLC,
Objective
- support , sustainable and spreading the human rights values - enhance capacity and abilities of Afghan women - attention to the concerns of human rights and justice - enhance the long term abilities t address the needs of women rights - enhance women role and effectiveness regarding the right’s issues Vision : Building a society reliable on the democracy and law through promotion of human rights and establish a strong movement based on civil society. Activities
• Conducting training programs on human rights and women’s rights through seminars, workshops and gatherings. • Conducting literacy, computer and English language courses for women and girls and introducing them to schools. • Training and advocacy programs for Convention on Elimination of all forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), elimination discrimination, convention on economical, social, culture, civic and political, children’s rights, Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) peace building and women’s rights according Islam. • Embroidery and handicrafts courses for women and establishing resource center for women. ToT for trainers of other organization regarding above mentioned issues in country Organizational Beneficiaries (focused group) Afghan women , men and children to raise the arwareness level regarding Afghanistan constitution , and international conventions which are singed by Afghanistan and election process and independent observation of it , transferee of voting box of elections and counting of votes . Project implemented in 2007 Our current project are as following : 1 – women rights awareness in 12 district of Kabul city for 300 men and women the duration of project is for one year from April 2008 till march 2009 .The donor of this project is National Endowment for Democracy (NED). 2- Awareness regarding human rights handbook and Nekah Nama (marriage contract ) in 9 district of Kabul city . the beneficiaries of this project is 225 men and women . duration of project is for 6 month from 21 / feb /2008 till 21 / august /2008 .this project is financial supported by Rights and Democracy (R&D). 3-Afghan Women Leaders Connect (AWLC) is working with us for the capacity building of our organization , they hired a consultant to help women organization . 4- Afghan Women Education Center (AWEC) also work with THRA for capacity building . we were selected as Civil Society Organization(CSO) 5- USAID selected THRA as organization for capacity development. They conduct training and representative of our organization is attending these workshops.
