| The AWN is composed of both NGOs and individual members. Currently
there are 24 NGOs and over 900 individuals.
How to Join
Women interested in applying for membership should submit their
application to the secretary of the network. The applicant will
receive the membership contract, which she will be required to complete.
The secretary will present the applications and membership contract
to the executive committee. Membership should be approved by a two
third majority vote of the executive committee members. Membership
applications that are rejected can reapply after one year. Members
should pay their membership fees according to the following guidelines.
The membership fee is paid quarterly:
The annual fee for the staff of international NGOs is Rs 2000 or
2000 Afghani.
The annual fee for local NGOs is Rs 1,000.
The annual fee for NGOs that have not yet received funds is Rs 500.
The annual fee for individual members is Rs 120.
There are three types of Membership:
1. Regular members: Regular members are those who have completed
the ordinary membership period and actively participated in the
meetings and working groups. Regular members of the AWN should be
Afghan. If a regular member is far from the AWN base for a year
and does not make any contribution towards the network, her status
will be changed in to ordinary member. The regular members are eligible
to stand as candidate for the executive committee election and to
vote. The votes of all members are of the same value.
2. Ordinary Members: Ordinary members are those who have completed
the required period as Associate members and actively participated
in the meeting and contribute to the working group.
The members will not participate in the election of the executive
committee members. The minutes of the meeting and reports of activities
will be sent regularly to the ordinary members.
The status of the ordinary members will change to regular after
completing three months and the decision will be based on their
performance and comments.
3. Associate members: Women who are interested in cooperation with
AWN and meet the membership criteria will be accepting as associate
members. After completing three to six months the status of associate
members can be changed to ordinary members depending on their interest.
The associate members may participate in the network activities
and working groups. The network can use the support and cooperation
of other organization and individuals including men in order to
carry out its activities.
Membership Criteria
All members must be women.
All members must have a reputable character.
All Members must have reached their legal age of adulthood.
Women who elects must be free of ethnic, linguistic or religious
bias.
All members must abide by the network constitution.
All members keep the matters discussed at AWN meeting confidential.
Members must not misuse the name, privileges and facilities of the
network.
All members must abide the membership agreement/contract.
Members of political organization must not use the network for their
political activities.
