Year of Establishment: 1997

Training Human Rights Association was founded in 1997. It is a nongovernmental, nonpolitical and nonprofit able organization working in different areas. The main target of the organization is to provide awareness programs for women so that they get aware of their rights. They are entitled in accordance with Islamic laws and international laws.
THRA aims to help Afghan women recognize their rights and the ways to benefit from them. We encourage women in our programs to avail their rights and participate in all social affairs. We want to ensure women possess their full rights in the society and they function actively equal to men.

 


MISSION

OBJECTIVES

To assist in Rehabilitation and Development programs.

 

 

The main objectives of THRA is to aware women of the country about human rights, give them legal awareness, conduct advocacy on it without any kind of cultural, ethnic and language discrimination.
THRA is working to help women attain there rights, according to the principles of Islam.

Activities in April 2005

Workshops/Trainings

 

In the month of April 2005 THRA conducted four workshops with participation of 80 women including teachers, housewives and government employees.

The first workshop was conducted on “ Women’s Rights with Special Focus on Elections” for 20 literacy teachers on 4th of Apr 05. The program was also evaluated by representatives from Canadian Embassy. This program was funded by Canadian Embassy.

The second workshop was conducted on “Women, Constitution and Elections” for 20 teachers in university of economics on 11th of Apr 05 by financial support of Rights and Democracy.

The third workshop was conducted on 18th Apr 05 about “
Women’s Rights with Focus on Elections” for 20 teachers.
This workshop was funded by Canadian Embassy.


The fourth and final workshop was conducted on “Women, Constitution and Elections” for 20 house wives on 25th Apr 05.


Meetings:

• THRA participated in a meeting held in NDI on 10/2/2005 regarding Free and Fare Elections Criteria’s.
• On 3/4 /2005 THRA representative participated in a meeting held by Ministry of Women’s Affairs on 3/4/2005. This meeting was subjected to activities of Women’s Coordinating Assembly.



• On 10/4/2005 a meeting was organized in AWN regarding NoVIB projects for 2005. THRA is implementing its project in Mazar-e-sharif and participated in this meeting as its implementing partner.
• THRA participated in meeting held by FEFA on 12/4/2005.
• THRA participated in a meeting held by CSHRN on 17/4/2005.
• THRA participated in meeting held in AWN on 18/4/2005 regarding progress of projects funded by NoVib.

 

Individuals:

THRA representative participated in a one-day workshop On 24th of April 2005. This workshop was held on CEDAW/Human Rights Treaties Orientation workshop / NGO’s Shadow Reporting. In this one day workshop participants were requested to come together and work on the Shadow reports. This Program was organized by UNAMA, UNIFEM and Ministry of Foreign Affairs jointly.

THRA is also involved in a number of activities as listed below:
• Conducting training programs on human rights.
• Working in the importance and effectiveness of the women's participation in the registration process of the elections.
• Conducting literacy courses for women and girls and introducing them to schools.
• Conducting of tailoring and knitting training courses for women and implementation of peace and advocacy programs.

• Training and advocacy programs for convention on elimination of all forms of discrimination against women (CEDAW).
• Celebration of international women's day 8th march.
• Embroidery and handicrafts for women besides literacy courses

 

 

 

PROJECTS RUN BY THRA

 

Women's Rights


Short description:
The project was supported by DED. It started from 10/1/04 – 10/3/04. The main purpose of this project was to raise knowledge of women regarding their rights. Women's rights have always been violated in Afghanistan and the only way to vanish this system is to make aware women on their rights, to alert them that they formulate half of the society and they have the equal rights as a man has. The project was implemented by conducting 4 three-day workshops in districts of Kabul city.

 

Results:
As a result 100 women and girls were made aware of their rights. These women were taught about rights of women according to convention of Human Rights, prevent any kind of discrimination against women.

Women, Constitution and Elections 2004

 

Short description:

This project is funded by Rights and Democracy . It started from july 2004 up to July 2005. The main purpose of this project is to elevate women's education level in concern of their rights in the society and how to defend from it. In addition it also concentrated on up coming Elections and how important is women's participation in it for a good future of Afghanistan. The project is implemented by conducting 25 workshops for 500 women from different districts of Kabul.

 

Results
Hundred of women and girls registered their names for Elections 2004.


Women's Rights with Focus on Elections 2004


Short description:
The project is supported by CANADA FUND and it is a one year project for 500 women from Kabul, Logar, Wardak, Parwan and Nangharhar provinces. Main objectives of this project is Women's Rights and participation in elections.
The focal point of this project is women in urban and rural areas of Afghanistan who have been away from education for years. The women who have been given the chance to give their opinions and any stage of life and this would be a great chance for them that they would be taught of their rights, besides they will be given an opportunity to chose not only a leader but a good leader for their war-turned country.

 

Results:
500 women and girls will be given the chance to participate in the elections.


Celebration of Mother's Day with focus on Elections 2004

Description:
This project was funded by UNAMA. It was a one month project and the aim of this project was to celebrate the cherished day of mothers and beside it to give them awareness on the process of upcoming elections, to make them responsive of how important is their role in elections since the are the creators of new generation and responsible to give their children a good future in a self-sufficient country.


Women's Rights in accordance with New Constitution

 

Description:
It was a joined project with APDA which was funded by Lawyers Union of Afghanistan. Duration of this project was one month ( March 2004). Through this project a two-day workshop was conducted for thirty women and girls from governmental and nongovernmental organizations. In the workshop the "Do not harm" and "Gender" issues were discussed.

 

Women's Rights with Focus on Parliamentary Elections

 

Short Description:

After many years of crisis and disaster finally women of Afghanistan according to the new constitution of Afghanistan got their equal rights as afghan men have even now they can participate in the parliamentary of Afghanistan. THRA is planning to make women aware of parliament and the its main concept, wolese jirga, mishrano jirga and their role and responsibility in legislative. So that women can candidate themselves in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
This project which is funded by ded can help them a lot in learning more in less time and it can be practical for them not only as voters but also being a candidate of parliamentary elections. During six-months conducting six workshop with participation of 120 women from district # 9, 10, 12, 3, 18, 16 of Kabul city.


Results:
Directly 120 women will be informed about concept, importance and role of parliament in peace building and democracy. After getting this training these 120 participants can convey the same subject to their families and if we assume each family 7 members so the number of indirect beneficiaries will be 840 and with the training team itself the number may increase to 965 beneficiaries. It may have a positive effect on parliamentary elections.

 

Staff Capacity Building


Short Description:

Since the technology has improved and has brought many comforts in life of human beings, everyone is willing to manage their live style with the new technology.
For capacity building of its staff in different sections such as administration, training unit in addition to finance section with is the most significant and considerable section. THRA planned to refine this new technology in its management system.
For having a good management system in an office the most important thing is to have access to a good and well-organized scheme. To make the workshops more attention-grabbing, motivated and practical for the participants and as well for the trainers and organizers of these workshops. Besides THRA is contributing with AIHRC and other organizations in conducting their workshops and meetings farther more we would also be pleased from contribution of AIHRC and NGOs in workshops conducted by our organization.

This project is financially supported by AIHRC. Besides THRA hired a group of well-known and officially authorized auditors to audit the entire projects of THRA.

 

Results:

As a result some equipments were purchased for office and THRA hired official auditors for auditing THRA project from 2003 up to 2004.

 

Gender Violence

 

Short Description:

This project is financially supported by Novib with cooperation of AWN. It is a one year project which will be implemented in Mazar-e-Sharif. According to the plan in the first three months THRA trainers will give trainings on Gender violence and for the other three months campaign will be made on gender violence.

 

Results:

As a result directly 75 women and men will be aware of gender issue. By the help of this campaign the subject will be transferred to others.

 

Particulars:

1. THRA's Director Ms, Roshan Sirran had participated as international monitor in the 2004 parliamentary and Presidential Elections of Philippine in Manila on 10/5/04
2. THRA has received two certificates from DED on July 2004 and Embassy of England on June 2004 for successful progress of it's projects.
3. THRA has also literacy and stitching courses and these courses are used as resource center.
4. On 22nd of June 2004 a number of Turkish women living in Kabul distributed clothes and food for seven poor and vulnerable families of Kabul city.
