Gender Analysis - Workshop

Click to enlargeA five days workshop on “Gender Analysis” was conducted by “” on 23-Feb-2005 at the Ministry of Women in which 18 (6 male, 12 female) participants comprising staff of Ministry of Women, Haj Auqaf and civil society organizations took active participation

The aim of the workshop was to enhance skills of MOWA / other ministries (GFP) staff to practice Gender Analysis and participatory tools and techniques for collecting gender disintegrated data and information during situation analysis.

As a result, trainers were able to change the minds of participates and encouraged them to practice Gender Equality.

The training topics were:

• Objectives and Methodology of the program
• Participation of women and men
• Participation
• Steps of Participation
• Analysis of situation, how to do Gender Analysis
• What are PRA tools, purpose of PRA

• Raising awareness on gender issue among the families in order to stabilize the equality among the boys and girls
• Having each other’s idea and suggestion through decision session.
• Agreeing upon issues at which they were opposing due to lack of awareness.

The workshop end at 3/3/05 successfully.

 
 

Violence Against Women and Legal Rights - Training

Herat 27-29 Feb, 2005

A three days Training implemented by VOW ( Voice Of Women) and supervised by AWN-trainer Ms. Shelah Samimi, participated by 25 participants from government and non government organizations was conducted by AWN on 27–29 February, 2005.

The training was opened at 9: 00 am. by Ms. Soraya Pakzad who provided an introduction to the program after which Ms. Shelah Samimi provided a briefing about the violence against women and the ways to prevent it.

The training topics were:

• Violence definition
• Type of violence ( cultural & physical )
• Type of violence in home, school, community and country
• Men’s rights over women according to Islam
• Women’s rights over men according to Islam
• Human rights according to Islam
• Value of Human Rights according the Afghan culture
• Civil rights ( engagement, marriage , divorce , Mehr )
• Reasons of women weaknesses
• Reason of women strongness
• What do the elders and younger learn

The training was ended in a peaceful atmosphere. Although most of the participants were learned persons but most of them had very little knowledge about their rights according to Islam as well as at international level. They also had no adequate awareness about violence against women. This training paved the way of learning and awareness of their rights.

Output:

One of the old woman participant admitted that she doesn’t have good relations with her daughter in law. She promised to behave as a real mother.
Some other participants that were professionally engaged in the field of also decided to have a good attitude towards students.

 

Journalism Workshop

AWN conducted an 8 day workshop (6 hours a day 9:00 am to 03:00 pm) on Women Journalism at AWN meeting hall, Kabul from 27 Feb to -7 March 2005 for 25 women participants.

The first day of training was initiated with the recitation of Holy Quran after which Mr. Nazir, Consultant Afghan Women’s Network provided a briefing about the aims, objectives and importance of the training.

The training was conducted by Mr. Sarwar Saher with the facilitation of Ms. Wazhma Papal.

• Role of women in Media
• Interview, its importance and its types
• Sources of report
• Novel / Writer
• Pictures
• Curriculum and Caption
• How to organize contents on a page
• Radio and its history

• Beginning of Journalism in Afghanistan

Output:

Through group work and practical work with the six local NGOs the participants were able to know how to conduct an interview, how to reflect social problems by their writings and how to make the news more interesting for the readers.
Besides these, the participants also created a 15 min program for the TV and Radio.

Workshops on HIV/AIDS

Peshawar 18-28 April, 2005

Afghan Women’s Network is pleased to conduct two training workshops under the topic of (HIV / ADIS) each workshop will be for five days the training will be held from 18 – 28 April 05 at REVOLI guest house. (Peshawar Pakistan)
Women Commission supports this training.


Having had measurable and considerable experiences in civic education for Afghans in the process of election new government for Afghanistan, AWN is an experienced woman based organization to fulfill the project with professional knack. Educating women in Afghanistan to decide about their country fate is the basic requirement and foremost importance at present. It is first to educate Afghan women that how important their votes are. How a vote can bring the great change in countries and nation’s fate. How important is to have more women in the Parliament so they will stand for protecting women and children rights. And we will have our own advocates in the parliament. So “more qualified advocates, more protection women will have”.

Civic education for parliament election is a two month project funded by Leader Connect this project design in two Location Peshawar Pakistan and Jalalabad Afghanistan the aim of this project is To raise women’s political rights and encourage them to vote and take part in Afghan parliament election.

 

Supervision Of G.B.V & L.R training implemented By Health And Development Center For Afghan Women ( ADCAW )

Kabul - 22-Feb-2005
The training took place in Lagmani Parwan High School in Parwan Province. The workshop was trained By (HDCAW) trainers with supervision of Ms Rahela Saleem, Afghan Women Network (AWN) trainer.

13 women 12 men participated in the workshop according to her report this training was satisfactory but useful for the Community.
The participants wanted to attend the same training and desired them to organize this workshop in their region for families and schools as well. The workshop was for tree days it started from 26 up to 28 Of February according to the following details:

The participants requested the NGO’s to train the men in this province because the men capacity is less than women in this case as mostly men don’t respect their wife, mothers, sisters and daughters. They believe that women can’t do any thing and cannot work to reconstruct their country and society when trainers talked about the gender they didn’t know about it at all and also they requested that if you want to aware all people about and give them awareness so please hold these workshop for every week and month and these workshop is very useful for us.

Result of this workshop was that the women who attended this workshop, could aware their own families and other women in their area and the move the area women ideas that the also want to attend these workshops and seminars to know more and more about their legal rights .

The participant promised that will give the awareness to all their families and people of their area.

AWN Monitoring workshops


Monitoring of (SWNHO) Workshop In Qandahar

The Workshop took place in Qandahar province at Women Ministry president ship.


The agenda of workshop was

  • Child Rights


20 women and men participated in this 3 days workshop that was from 26th - 28th February 2005. The workshop was trained by SWNHO and AWN trainers. Mr, Hashimi who monitored the workshop.
The participants of the workshop were very glad to have the opportunity learn and recognize their own rights as well as the rights of their family, community and people.


Monitoring of NEC workshop in Jalalabad

This three days workshop took place in Jalalabad’s Women Ministry President Ship from 26 to 28 of February, 2005.
The purpose of this workshop was to curb violence against women. 25 women participated in this workshop. This workshop was trained by NEC and AWN trainers i.e. Ms. Mahria, Afghan Women Network trainer who monitored this workshop. The impact of this workshop was so good that the participant assured that they will attend this workshop and raise awareness among other women about it as well.


The workshop ended on 28/3/2005

 

Gender Training workshop - Jalalabad

Jalalabad - 17-Feb-2005

AWN conducted a 3 days Gender development workshop in Jalalabad from 15-Feb-2005 to 17-Feb-2005.
Participants from member organizations, Women Affair Presidentship and other civil society organizations took active participation in workshop.

The training was jointly conducted by AWN and Ministry of Women affairs.

In this workshop the following topics were highlighted:

  • Development for Women, Men and Community
  • Women Power
  • The reason of weakness of women and Point To Reach to power
  • Period of power
  • Short review
  • Equality, justice
  • Review of a day before topics

The participants highly praised the workshop and requested AWN to conduct more workshop like this and to distribute certificate to the trainees.

Kabul - 22-Feb-2005

AWN Conducted a two days Gender training workshop in Konduz province of Afghanistan. The workshop was conducted from 21-Feb-2005 to 22-Feb-2005 in which 20 women from various organizations and ministries including Ministries of Health, Education, Communication, UNDPS, UNAMA took active participation.

The training was organized by Ministry of Women Affairs of Khonduz province and the training was conducted by AWN trainers.

This training contained;

  • A complete information about the development of Gender
  • What is Development
  • How we can change women with these workshops
  • How can we give information to men about Gender
  • What is power?
  • How can we give information to women about Gender
  • The participants commended the workshop and considered it beneficial.

3 days workshop on "Legal righs of women in Jail"

Kabul - 14-Feb-2005

AWN with conducted a three days workshop on “Legal rights for women in Jail”. This workshop was conducted for awareness of women’s rights, child rights, human rights in a civil society and women’s rights in Islam. The target group of the workshop was the women that are in Jail.

The workshop was conducted in Kabul Jail women’s section from 12-02-2005 to 14-02-2005 for 5 hours daily. The objective of this workshop was to raise awareness of legal rights for those women that do not know about their rights and responsibilities of their family, the community and even their own self. The resource persons of the workshop were Ms. Rahela and Ms. Afzon, AWN trainers.

Click to enlargeThe workshop was very effective and the participants of the workshop took active participation. Expressing their views about the problems they were facing, one of the participants said, “We have lots of problem in jail and we want that any organization or the Ministry of Women affairs take the responsibility of the women in jail because no one pay attention to problems of women there. If they complain about the Jail workers, they never listen to them and never behave with them as human. They can not meet their families and children and when their families bring something for them like food, clothes, medicines etc. the jailer and the workers, that are responsible for them, get money for that and even then if they wish they will give them half of their own things”.

Someof the women in Jail were even unaware about their offense and the punishment.

The participants commended the workshop and thanked AWN for conducting such a workshop.

Kabul - 12-Feb-2005

AWN with collaboration of UNDP and MOWA (Ministry O Women in Afghanistan- Kabul) organized a 5 days Gender workshop for civil society, women, vocational high school teachers and workers on 7-02-2005 to 12-02-2005.

19 women took active participation in this workshop. AWN trainers and resource person conducted the required training of the workshop.

The participants commended the workshop and were thankful to AWN for building their capacity and raising their awareness. In feed back comments the participants suggested to also organize workshops on other subjects like management, political awareness, women legal rights etc.

Kabul 14 Feb 2005

AWN conducted its 6th political awareness workshop for youth with financial support from Women Kind at AWN Main office in Kabul, Afghanistan from 13-Feb 2005 to 14 Feb 2005.

In this two days workshop participants from the member NGOs took active participation. The purpose of this workshop was to aware the youth about the issues regarding politics, government, elections, economics and parliament of the country.

The resource person of the workshop was Ms. Fowzia and Ms. Mahria Afghan (Women’s Network Trainers)

Expressing views about the workshop, one of the participant commended the effort and thanked AWN for conducting such a resourceful workshop and said, It is the need of today’s youth to be aware of the issues of the current politics of the country, the government, economic issues and elections and added that such workshop on other related issues should also be conducted.
